Internet Industry Association - Responsible and Ethical Conduct:

Cogentis Pty Ltd complies with the Internet Industry Association (IIA) reference guide for responsible and ethical conduct for online transactions and practice.

As responsible members of the Internet Industry Association (IIA) we pledge to:

• Respect the privacy of end users,
• Take reasonable steps to inform our customers of internet safety issues (by directing them to appropriate resources etc)
• Where providing online transactions, ensure they are consistent with current industry best practice regarding security
• Provide reasonable assistance to law enforcement authorities acting within their legal powers in investigating online fraud or crime
• Ensure our commercial email practices respect the principle of permission, that is, conform with best practice standards in relation to the express or inferred consent of recipients
• Take reasonable steps to ensure that our in-house IT facilities do not make us the unwitting disseminators of viruses and other malware
• Ensure our business respects copyright and intellectual property rights and applicable Australian content regulations
• Ensure, as best possible that our business website complies with web accessibility requirements
• Adhere to both the spirit and letter of all relevant industry and IIA Codes of Practice.

ICRA Content Labelling:

Cogentis also supports the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), and it's belief that industry self-regulation leads to the best balance between the free flow of digital content and protection of children from potentially harmful digital content. The Internet Content Rating Association is an international, non-profit organization working to make the internet safer for children, whilst respecting the rights of content providers.

The ICRA "self labeling" system encourages content providers to self-label - by adding their own ICRA label to their sites, declaring what types of content are present or absent.

The cornerstone of ICRA content labelling is the descriptive vocabulary, often referred to as "the ICRA questionnaire." Content providers check which of the elements in the questionnaire are present or absent from their websites. This then generates a small file containing the labels, which is then linked to the content on one or more domains.

Once a site is labelled in this way, Users, especially parents of young children, can then use filtering software to allow or disallow access to web sites based on the information declared in the label. A key point is that the Internet Content Rating Association does not rate internet content - the content providers do that, using the ICRA labelling system.
